Human-led vs autonomous pentests
Aikido's pentesting is built around AI agents that test your applications and APIs continuously and validate every finding before it reaches your report. That stays at the core of what we do, and for most compliance frameworks an autonomous report is accepted as evidence.
Some standards require the test to be performed by a human. They were written before AI could carry out a penetration test, when every pentest was a human attacking your systems. Those standards have not yet been updated, so until they are, an autonomous report does not meet those requirements.
You can now get both from Aikido. A human-led, CREST-accredited penetration test when an auditor or customer asks for one. Run autonomous AI pentests in between, so the releases you ship after the audit are tested continuously.
What CREST accreditation means
CREST is an international body that accredits companies providing cyber security services. Before admitting a member, CREST assesses how the company operates: its testing methodology, how it protects client data, its quality assurance, and the qualifications of the people who do the work.
Accreditation is granted per discipline. Ours covers penetration testing, which means our (human-led) penetration testing follows processes CREST has reviewed.
Why this matters
Banks, government bodies and critical infrastructure rarely choose a pentest provider on technical merit alone. Their regulators, auditors and procurement rules ask for proof that the tester is qualified, independent and accountable. CREST accreditation is a widely recognized benchmark for them.
For these highly regulated organisations, working with a CREST member shortens supplier due diligence. Auditors receive a report from a provider whose processes have been independently assessed, and security teams spend less time answering questions about who did the testing and how.
